Rainbow Mountain

Join us on this wonderful 1 Day Journey towards the newly discovered, and now famous Rainbow Mountain in Vinicunca. Due to rich minerals, the mountain is full of deep colors, which create a unique pattern. You get to hike through highland landscapes, surrounded by huge mountains and alpaca herds gracing around us.

Duration – 4am to 7pm

Pick up from your hotel/hostel with our private transportation at 4am. This way we will be able to avoid the crowds later in the day. The drive is approximately 3 ½ hours to the community of Chilca (4300m/14100ft). Our Chef will prepare a nutritious breakfast for us and you will have time to get ready for the trek (organise your backpack, use the facilities, apply sun cream, etc.)

After enjoying breakfast we will start our journey towards Vinicunca. This is the most recent nature treasure in the region of Cusco, discovered just a few years ago by the local people.

The trail begins with a slight uphill, so we will take it easy to warm up and get your body used to the trek. For the next 4 hours we hike through highland landscapes, below huge mountains, watching alpaca herds gracing around us. If you are lucky you may be able to spot the Andean rabbits or locally known as chinchillas, and condors soaring above us.

Before reaching our destination you get to see the most important Apu (mountain god) in the Cusco area called Ausangate (6350m/20955ft) in the distance.
The final stretch is an uphill again, the last challenge before we arrive to the best part of our journey, the Vinicunca Pass or better known as the Rainbow Mountain (5035m/16515ft).

Take your time to get a few great pictures and of course learn a bit about the history of the area from your tour guide.

Afterwards we return back towards Chillca. This part should take us around 2 hours. And to finish our journey, our chef will already be waiting for us with a magnificent and well deserved lunch.

Back in the Bus for a 3 ½ hours ride to Cusco where we will drop you off at your hotel/hostel again.
