Chonta – Condor Canyon

The Condor Canyon Trek is still a hidden treasure. Located in a remote and small village named Chonta, which dates back to the Inca times.

Take in the gorgeous scenery, including Salkantay and surrounding peaks, the Apurimac Canyon, and peaceful villages.

During this journey you get to be in contact with the biggest, most powerful and magnificent flying bird in the world, the Andean condor.

Duration – 6am to 9pm

We will pick you up at 6am from your hotel/hostel with our private transportation.
Our drive to the community of Chonta (3400m/11150ft) will be approximately 3 ½ hours. Once we get there you will have some time to walk around the town. This is a small and quite village since some inhabitants have left it looking for better jobs in the cities.

We will have lunch and a short rest before starting our hike to the “mirador del condor”, the condor lookout.

To reach this point it will take us 1 ½ hours. Along the way we get to enjoy a magnificent view of one of the most important mountain gods in Cusco, Salkantay (6271m/20570ft). Below us, in one of the deepest canyons in the world, we can see the Apurimac River.

Once we reach Huaco (3300m/10824ft), the lookout point, we will wait for the condors, as they come to soar in the sky just above us so close that we can almost touch them.

This is definitely one of the most amazing natural shows you can ever witness!! After around 2 hours it is time to return to the campsite, were dinner is already waiting for us.

After dinner it is time to return to Cusco. We will be back in the city by around 9pm where we will take you back to your hotel/hostel.
